Welcome to Ulladulla Physical Culture Club

Established in 1976, the Ulladulla Physical Culture Club (UPC) is proud of its culture, its achievements, its community involvement, and its association with the Bjelke Peterson School of Physical Culture (known as BJP Physie, or Physie) since 1977. UPC is a place where members of all ages come together each week to learn and perfect the art of Physie and explore the possibilities of training and challenging the body to perform, supported by attitude.

Physie is a combination of Modern Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary, and Hip Pop, as well as Yoga and Pilates. However, you don’t necessarily need to have any experience in any of these styles of exercise to master Physie. UPC welcomes participation from anyone who wants to challenge themselves.

UPC Associates have extensive experience and encourage every member to achieve their goals. UPC prides itself on helping members build confidence and self-esteem, not only at Physie, but skills that are transferrable into everyday life.  UPC promotes working as a team as well as individually achieving goals.

At UPC we value our community and welcome input and diversity.  Our Associates are committed to making every class fun and energetic. UPC celebrates both effort and success.

Why be a UPC Member?

Physie isn’t just about dancing or competitions. It’s about empowering members with the skills to become confident and strong. UPC fosters a culture of belonging, it is about attaining and maintaining fit and healthy goals, increasing strength and flexibility, exercising the body and mind, and creating a place where members feel encouraged, supported and valued.

Physie is a mix of Pilates, Contemporary, Ballet, Modern Dance and has similarities to a Power Yoga class - it has all the same benefits. Across five set routines, Physie stimulates the entire body and its delicate meta-physical systems. Physie is absolutely wonderful for increasing physical strength, agility, balance, cardiovascular fitness, proper joint alignment and muscular memory, not to mention the increase in memory capacity and creativity. Our bodies are designed as a network of communications and Physie’s eclectic mix of movement, community, and competition encourages a healthy physical, mental, and emotional balance.

Physie is an enjoyable and affordable way for girls and women to keep fit, develop discipline, and self-esteem while learning how to dance in a Club and team-based environment that has a touch of glamour and plenty of room for fun.

Physie can be a sport that multiple generations can enjoy, but it might look and feel a little different to what you previously might have seen. The focus is on a positive body image, embracing fitness as a way of life, and an emphasis on what your body is capable of.

BJP Physie creates fun, age appropriate, challenging exercise syllabuses every year that are performed to current upbeat music.

After time to learn the syllabus, and participating in regular Club classes, year-end healthy competition culminates in National Championships at both the Quaycentre Sydney Olympic Park (Juniors, Seniors and Ladies) and the Opera House (Seniors).

The objective of Physie is to help members strive towards their individual goals, and work together towards team competitions.

BJP Physie has proudly inspired generations of Australians to exercise both body and mind through this remarkable sport.
